Read her quote below :
We have Moll and L’ak , Elias Toufexis and Eve Harlow , wonderful thespian . They are our antagonists for the season . In germinate those characters , we talked about them as kind of a Bonnie and Clyde moral force we wanted . We had n’t done bad guys that were that were a couple before . So we want to judge something new this season . And we also thought it was very important to , of course , as with all of our reference , make them multi - dimensional . And in the case of a couple , you want to understand what is driving them . What is it they require ? You want to sympathize the astuteness of the love between them and where that comes from . So I think those two are an interesting addition to the serial . And I call back people will unexpectedly find themselves possibly even rooting for them , even though they ’re up against our champion .
And then Callum Keith Rennie who plays Rayner is also a tremendous addition . He comes in as Captain Rayner . And I do n’t want to say too much about him except that he is a bit of an antagonist with Burnham [ but ] not in the bad guy sense at all . He ’s a salutary guy character . But we will see Burnham grow through her interactions with him in a different direction than we ’ve run across her before . And so , that ’s always a question with type : If you ’re become to institute in someone novel , how do they impact our subsist characters ? How do they help highlight those character electric discharge for our existing folks ? And all three of [ them ] do that in really interesting ways this season .
Star Trek : Discovery season 5 is the concluding season of Paramount+ ’s flagship serial publication , and here ’s everything we know about Captain Burnham ’s last voyage .

Star Trek : Discoveryseason 5 ’s treasure is an ancient ability sourcehidden aboard an800 - year - old Romulan vessel , and whatever this prize is , Captain Rayner , Moll , and L’ak want it for different reasons . Moll , who is human , and Lak , who is an strange alien species , are buff , very much in the Bonnie and Clyde mold that Michelle Paradise describes . Moll and L’ak are also former couriers , which means that both Captain Burnham and Cleveland Booker ( David Ajala ) may have encountered the villainous duo in the past , since Michael and Book were also both couriers in the 32nd century .
Rayner is said to be no great fan of Captain Burnham , and his pointed auricle suggest he may be Vulcan , Romulan , or some form of hybrid .
Captain Rayner is a bit more of a mystery . He ’s a Starfleet Officer and Captain of the USS Antares , but Rayner ’s stake in the treasure is hard to immobilise down from what ’s been revealed inStar Trek : Discoveryseason 5 ’s trailers .
