Set in 1950s New Zealand , We Were Dangerousfollows three teens — Nellie ( Erana James , whose most illustrious role was inPrime Video ’s suddenly - lived seriesThe Wilds ) , Daisy ( Manaia Hall ) , and Louisa ( Nathalie Hall ) — during their prison term at a neglectful institution lead by the strictMatron ( Rima Te Wiata ) .
